Hiking, Biking and Driving Tours:

There is no better way to see the area and the "Northwoods" than on a trail. Hike and view spring wildflowers or bike along a tranquil wetland. The Chippewa National Forest, alone, offers about 300 miles of non-motorized trails. A couple that we recommend are:

The "Lost 40": The trees in this area have never been logged because it was originally mis-mapped and was never logged. Now you have a 1-mile trail among the gigantic virgin timber that are up to 350 years old!

Suomi Hills: These hiking trails are just south of the resort about 10 miles on Highway 38. There are 21 miles of trails to explore. Since everyone is looking for something different when they go for a walk, you will like that the trails offer different lengths and degrees of effort.

Edge of the Wilderness Driving Tour: Along The Edge of the Wilderness Scenic Byway are selected places that are referenced by green point markers approximately one mile apart. This driving tour is about 47 miles long from Grand Rapids, through Marcell, Bigfork and ends up in Effie. The average driving speed is approximately 40 mph. Take a few minutes at one Discovery Site or the entire day to navigate all the Discovery Sites.

Trout Lake Semiprimitive Non-motorized Area and the Joyce Estate: Some of our guests have hiked in this area. It is 6,000 acres of forest with miles of shoreline on 11 lakes.

There are many old logging roads to explore in the Chippewa National Forest area.

Mesabi Trail: A premier paved bike trail running 132 miles between Grand Rapids and Ely.

Taconite Trail: This trail starts in Grand Rapids at the Itasca County Fairgrounds. The first 6 miles are paved and the trails stretches for a total of 165 miles.

Bird and Wildlife Watching:

This seems to be a sport that many people are taking up. It’s easy to do in this area. Did you know that Itasca County has the highest number of Eagles in the continental US? This doesn’t surprise us. You will find many varieties of birds in our area.

Dining:

Don’t want to cook? You will find what you are looking for. Within 5 miles of Cedar Point you will find local cafés, fine dining and convenience foods. We also serve food and snacks in the Lodge at Cedar Point Resort.

Movies and Theatres:

Mann Theater, Reif Center for Performing Arts, Mac Rostie Art Center, Mississippi Melodie Showboat are some of the venues you can choose from.

Bowling and Mini-Golf:

Bowling and Mini-Golf is fun for the whole family! You can choose from several places - Blueberry Bowl in Deer River, Midway Bowl and Mini Golf in Grand Rapids and Blackduck Bowling in Blackduck.

Indian Gaming Casinos:

In our area you will find the White Oak Casino, Northern Lights Casino and Palace Casino.

Berry Picking:

Find them yourself or go to Nordic Ridge Gardens, Blueberry Meadows, or Lavalier's Berry Patch

Horseback Riding:

Double K riding stable is close by. Perhaps you’d be interested in arranging for a ride through the forest!
